Welcome to "On The Screen" where, from time to time, you'll find interesting and provocative points of view regarding the media that lies beyond comics (yet, in many ways, is related).

It Is About The Money

Shutter Island holds onto #1 with $22.7 million.

Cop Out grabs the #2 spot with $18.2 million.

The Crazies is up to #3 with $16.1 million.

Avatar drops to #4 with $13.7 million.

The Lightning Thief snags #5 (again) with $9.6 million.

 Movie Madness

Critical Issues

3/3/10

Alice In Wonderland

Johnny Depp as The Mad Hatter was absolutely great and buoyed what may have otherwise been a PBS film.

Quick note -

After seeing this I trully believe that Depp should be the next Joker and NOT the Riddler.

Cop Out

It was so stupid that it was funny.

I'll see it again.

Wolfman

I expected (much) better.

Valentine's Day

If you're into soap operas then this is definitely for you.

Dear John

An emotional ride with a couple trying to handle duty to country and to love.

Tons of potential.

From Paris With Love

Travolta's character seems to carryover from Pelham 1 2 3,

but I have to admit...,

this movie was GREAT.

Edge Of Darkness

Better than expected. Not quite as emotional as Taken but it keeps you interested throughout.

Mel Gibson did well with this one.

Legion

Not what was expected. In fact it was so bad it was downright silly.

The Book Of Eli

Started out with that Mad Max "feel" but soon took on an identity of its own, though the ending could have been written better.

Put it this way, don't expect too much and you just might find yourself entertained.

Sherlock Holmes

A great version of a classic hero. Great story. Nice to see the focus on the "brotherly" relationship between Holmes and Watson played superbly by Downey and Law.

Avatar

A Battle For Terra type of film with a hint of Surrogates but smooth 3D effects make all forgiven.
